Reverend Lloyd C. Black was born on February 4, 1941, in Gordon,AL to the late John
Black and Emma C. Black. He peacefully transitioned from this life surrounded by the love and
legacy he built through faith, family, and service.
In 1966, Reverend Black relocated to Tampa, where he began building a life rooted in hard work
and devotion to his community. After working with Dixie Linen Company, he later gained
employment with CSX Transportation, where he faithfully dedicated 36 years of service before
retiring.
A man of unwavering faith, Reverend Black answered the call to ministry and became an
ordained pastor in 1996 under the leadership of the late Rev. G.E. Edwards. In 2006, Reverend
Black was installed as Senior Pastor of Bible Missionary Baptist Church, where he served
diligently until 2018. He continued on his ministry and fellowship at Family Worship and Praise
Center. Preaching the Gospel was one of the greatest joys of his life, second only to the love he
had for his wife and family.
Reverend Black is preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Gwendolyn Black; his parents,
Emma C. Black and John Black, his son Darrick Leggett, his Granddaughter Angel Black and
his brother, Jimmy Baxter.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Shirley Black; his sister, Velma Bailey,
In-laws Irma Jean Wiggins, Geneva Copeland, Leola Green (John) Ozzie Horton (preceded in
death by Wife Sheryl) and his children: Jacquelyn Walker, Annette Porter (Jack), Lloyd Black Jr.
(preceded in death by wife Wanda), Shawn Gissendanner (Paul), Tyronda Spann (Ernest),
Marcus Leggett Sr.(Omonik), Michael T. Leggett Sr. (Toshiba), and Dontae Iverson.
He also leaves a loving legacy through his grandchildren: Calvin Fisher Jr.(Walteria Vasquez),
Quanesha Fisher, Mickesha Leggett (Caregiver), Michael Tyrone Leggett Jr (Alecia), Javarius
Fisher, Tequila Owens, Dawn Walker, Chris Porter, Todd Fontaine, Diana line, Paul, Micgerra
Gissendanner Jr., Shirtavia Leggett, Tiffany Gissendanner, Zequette Leggett, Brianna Leggett, Jackson Damell Leggett,Gerald Clark, Marcus Leggett Jr., Markayla Leggett, Makhari Leggett, Omani
Leggett, Oaklynn, Darricka Leggett, Mikela Leggett along with a host of great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren, extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
Reverend Lloyd C. Black will forever be remembered for his powerful preaching, gentle spirit,
steadfast faith, and deep love for his family and community. His legacy of service and devotion
will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.

Visitation: A visitation will be held Saturday May 23, 2026 from 4pm until 6pm at Harmon Funeral Home 5002 N. 40th Street Tampa, Florida 33610. Friends are invited to come and share memories with family members and co-workers in this service of reflection.
